Professor of Chemistry at Kent State University, has been elected to the Council of Experts- Expert Committee on Gastrointestinal, Renal, and Endocrine of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
For more than 185 years, the USP has been the official public standards-setting authority for all prescription and over-the-counter medicines, dietary supplements, and other healthcare products manufactured and sold in the United States. The USP’s standards are also recognized and used in many other countries outside the United States.
Dr. Blaih was a member of the USP’s delegation to the International Federation of Pharmacy (FIP) and to various USP-sponsored scientific and outreach meetings worldwide. He was an invited speaker of various topics dealing with compendia standards, quality of medicines, process analytical technology (PAT), stability and chirality, residual solvents, and genotoxic impurities.
Dr. Blaih has served as the president of The American Chemical Society-Penn Ohio Section and is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry (UK). His biography has been included in Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in America.
Dr. Blaih received his Ph.D. in Pharmacy from The Ohio State University, where he was also a visiting professor in 1989 and 1990. He has been teaching pharmacy and chemistry for more than 20 years. He has published numerous articles in pharmaceutical analysis and pharmacy/chemical education and was the invited speaker at several conferences and symposia. Dr. Blaih is a reviewer for Spectrochimica Acta: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy and has reviewed several textbooks and journal articles.
Dr. Blaih is a board-certified pharmacist and is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, Rho Chi pharmacy honor society, and the Ohio Board of Regents Focus Group for Academic Content Standards in Science. Dr. Blaih was a recipient of Alexandria University’s Medal in Research Excellence. He is also a member of Rotary International.
Dr. Blaih resides in Champion, Ohio, with his wife Joan, an English instructor at Kent State, and children Yasmin, a Ph.D. candidate in physical-biochemistry at Kent State; and Hani, a Doctor of Pharmacy student at the University of Cincinnati.
